Marga Duin

Biography

Marga Duin was born in Heemskerk, a little village surrounded by fields and meadows, close to the dunes and the sea, in the Netherlands. Her father was a bulb grower. So she grew up in a world full of color. It fascinated her. In her abstract paintings, color is always the point of departure. It is mostly placed in geometric shapes, with one aim: to achieve harmony. The color is used to represent the most profound fundamental emotion characterising interpersonal relations.

Her large chalk, pastel drawings and collages may be defined as Modern Classical. She draws from life and doing so, she has developed a style that is her own.

The biggest influence on her work is her fascinating for nature; the seasons with their changing colors, the light, and the silence. It gives her the feeling of earth bounded. If she's in nature she feels happy, “There is so much to see and to feel, especially when I'm alone on the beach. Therefore my studio is located in Zandvoort on the coast”.

The sea is an abundant source of inspiration for her and one could see the essence of nature within her work. Often she walks along the beach and gazes at the ever fascinating image of light and sea. It inspires her, “The sea is space, freedom”.

Art is a large part of her life and has always been. She cannot live without it. She doesn't take concessions and is always following her own way.
